Belfast
We started our tour of Belfast by taking our bus on a driving tour of the city. We drove along the Peace line, Falls Road (Catholic area), Shankill Road (Protestant area). We saw Milltown Cemetery and the Sinn Fein headquarters. Belfast still has a lot of political murals. We were able to stop and sign the Peace Wall.
Our first stop was the Titanic Quarter. The docks of Belfast were home to Harland and Wolff shipbuilders. They are the company that build the Titanic. We were able to see the dry dock where the ship was built, the drawing room used by the engineers, and hear a bit of personal family history from Susie Millar, our local guide. Next, we were free for lunch and a visit to City Hall before heading back to Dublin. |
